Routines - PMS/Hormonal Acne
Managing Hormonal Acne
Hormonal acne typically appears along the jawline and flares up around key points in your cycle—most often in the week before your period and near ovulation.
This type of acne is triggered by fluctuations in hormone levels, which increase sebum production and can lead to clogged pores and breakouts.
Understanding Your Cycle
- A typical menstrual cycle is about 28 days long.
- A normal period lasts 3–5 days.
- Ovulation typically occurs around days 12–14.
How to Adjust Your Routine
7 Days Before Your Period Begins:
To help manage hormonal breakouts, we recommend increasing the frequency and strength of your Cleaning routines during this premenstrual phase.
- If you’re currently using mostly Cleaning routines, step up to Cleaning – Amplified in the evenings.
- In the mornings, you may also add an additional Cleaning or Cleaning – Amplified session, depending on your needs.
- We also recommend doing one Clarifying Treatment in the 3 days leading up to your period.
Please let us know if any of the following apply to you:
- Your cycle duration is longer than 32 days or shorter than 24 days.
- Your period duration is more than 6 days or less than 3 days.
- Your menstrual flow is considered heavy.
Around Ovulation (Days 12–14):
Two days before ovulation, consider doing a Clarifying Treatment and/or adding extra Cleaning routines to stay ahead of potential congestion.
Why This Works
The products in our Cleaning and Clarifying Treatment routines—Acne Control Cream, Purifying Paste, and Clarifying Treatment—are designed to regulate sebum production and keep pores clear of acne-causing bacteria.
